Libertine
Goonhavern, Perranporth, Cornwall, UK
When a former fashion buyer stumbled across this old barn whilst lost in the woods on the north Cornwall coast, it was the start of something quite special. Buying the cottage and transforming it into a luxury self-catering love-nest for couples to enjoy, today Libertine flaunts metro tiles, velvet sofas and Vogue prints on the wall. French doors open up to the peaceful milieu of pretty woodland, where guests can walk to Goonhaven village and down to miles of golden sand at Perranporth beach.
Introduction
Once home to three little pigs, this 1860's Cornish piggery has been transformed into a luxury hideaway with ultra-stylish interiors. Traditional stone and cedar-clad exteriors conceal the infusion of modern features and fluorescent flourishes inside. From the industrial-inspired zinc kitchen with metro tile splashback, to the flashes of neon and royal blue velvet in the living area, each room has been given an injection of electric romance. Explore the north Cornwall coast by day and in the late afternoon, recline in the courtyard with fresh mint mojitos.
Inside
Pad barefoot into the kitchen and treasure the inside-outside vibes with a stable door and large windows; be it calm and clement or wild and brooding, the cinematic views are beautiful. Craft home-cooked meals from scratch using a medley of ingredients from Mr Fruity (the excellent local farmshop and refill store), before taking a seat around the candlelit dining table. The living room’s woodburner keeps things toasty in winter, before the bronze Victorian bed calls with its hand-printed Egyptian cotton sheets - making early nights and lazy lie-ins all the more tempting.
Outside
Libertine's private surroundings are ideal for unwinding and al fresco dining. This south-facing self-catering hideaway hunkers down below acres of woodland, and the close proximity to the coast makes the cottage well-positioned for saltwater adventures. Discover your very own wilderness behind the cottage by following steps to the secret garden and enchanted wood of bluebells and wild garlic beyond. Wind down the path to the hammock where you can sway in the breeze, absorb the pastoral panoramas and let the soft moos of the distant cows lull you into an afternoon siesta.

From the owner
“Our beautiful cottage hideaway, Libertine, offers everything you could want and more from a dream getaway. Delight in the fantastic setting, relax in the fabulous interiors and lose yourself entirely to its magnetic pull.”
Originally built in the 1860s, Libertine was the pigsty attached to the working farm and was in use until the 1970s. Just to tell you the story of how we got here; we found this spot when we were out walking one day. We ended up getting thoroughly lost and, as we walked past, both of us had a real ‘who lives in a cottage like this’ moment! It was such a find and we both immediately fell in love with the house and the setting.
Having been a fashion buyer in my previous life, renovating the pigsty gave me a chance to indulge in my love of fabric, print and colour. Hopefully, in its new guise, it is a little more luxurious!
We love living here, most mornings we wake up, look out of the window and wonder when the grownups are going to come and take the keys away.
We hope you get that special feeling too.
Miles and Caroline

We´ve had a marvelous week and thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Libertine. The property suited us down to the ground, the location is charming and the hosts are lovely. We will definitely book Libertine again; we loved it!
Thank you for the warm welcome, the beautiful flowers and the bottle of fizz to celebrate our honeymoon. We had a fantastic week here. We did so much, had lots of adventures exploring Cornwall before heading back here to the peaceful surroundings either drinking tea out the front, sitting up the top in the secret garden or just sat in front of the fire. We still have lots more we want to do but will save it for another time when we hopefully return here. Our stay went by so fast, thank you once again it was brilliant!
Thank you for a cosy, comfortable stay. The situation of Libertine is idyllic, perfect for rest and relaxation. The welcome hamper was lovely and an unexpected pleasure - the scones were delicious. Thank you for sharing this wonderful place. We didn´t get the greatest week weather-wise but we still enjoyed a very relaxing time here. Some lovely bracing beach walks, pub lunches and generally indulging ourselves! It was lovely to have those extra special touches provided, and we had all we needed for our comfort and convenience.
We were looking for a small and cosy break from the rat race. Libertine was perfect! And Caroline, the owner, could not have done more to make us feel welcome and at home. The roaring log fire, clotted cream and scones and locally made gin meeting us on arrival were a very welcome sight, and set the scene for a relaxed and happy few days. Thank you!

Thank you so much for our incredible stay here. The cottage is beautiful and your warm welcome has really made our holiday. We have loved exploring our surroundings, in particular ´The Hidden Hut´ at Porthcurnick beach! Ruby has loved every minute, and we may struggle to pull her away from the stream running through the bottom of the lane; a truly special location especially as James asked me to marry him on the bridge - I said yes! Thank you, we will definitely be coming back!
