Luxury self-catering accommodation in Kenmare

In the south of County Kerry, less crowded but brimming with just as much cosmopolitan charm as its popular sister town, Kenmare is considered ‘the thinking man’s Killlarney’. Spirited music spills from traditional Irish pubs and a roaring culinary scene awaits.

Fondly known as ‘The Little Nest’ on the Wild Atlantic Way, the small town of Kenmare sits just off the renowned Ring of Kerry - a circular driving route on every serious traveller's bucket list. The town takes its name from Ceann Mara or "head of the sea", referring to its unique location at the head of Kenmare Bay where the Roughty River meets the ocean. Easy access to the Beara and Dingle peninsulas and Caha Mountain range makes this beauty spot a popular destination with hill walkers. Whether climbing Ireland’s highest peaks, strolling through the county’s two National Parks - Killarney and Derrynane - or discovering the offshore islands of Skellig and Blasket, here it is easy to see why Kerry has been dubbed the Kingdom County.

Well positioned to cater for visitors travelling through, Kenmare has plenty to see, eat and do. Three main streets – Henry, Shelbourne and Main Street - form a neat triangle in the centre of the town offering a vibrant culinary scene. The town features in J.K Rowling’s fictional Harry Potter stories as home to the Kenmare Kestrels, an Irish team in the Quidditch League. Players wear emerald-green robes and have leprechauns as mascots. The town was also referenced Star Trek episode Breaking the Ice and provided the scenic backdrop for unorthodox love story The Lobster, staring Colin Farrell, in 2015. From wizards to spaceships and all things in between, it is as if anything could be possible in Kenmare.
