Merging with Hayle Beach to the south and Godrevy to the north, Gwithian sits slap-bang in the heart of three miles of sweeping golden sands. Surf shacks and terraced cafes looking out across St Ives Bay tempt afternoon pitstops of cold beers and seafood while, down the dunes (known as 'the towans' to the locals), lies the never-ending possibility of adventure. Think surfing, paddleboarding, kayaking and snorkeling, or sunbathing and paddling in the shallows for those less adrenaline seeking.
It's impossible to ignore St Ives jutting out to sea from the south, glittering in the sun during the day and flushed with the warmth of holiday cottages aglow at night. In the other direction, Godrevy Lighthouse (said to have inspired Virginia Wolf's, The Lighthouse) sits just off the coast; further along the coastpath are Portreath, St Agnes, Perranporth and Holywell Bay. There are no shortage of bars, inns and bistros surrounding Gwithian too; Mr B's Ice Cream in Hayle is not to be missed.
