Aptly named after an ancient holy well, which is quietly tucked away in a southerly sea cave along the sands, this beautiful Cornish beach is a short drive down the coast from Newquay, placing it firmly in surf-territory yet happily apart from the madding crowds. The high dunes that back the beach make great exploring trails, but heading further afield promises more stunning coastline hikes to Perranporth Beach in the south, or Pentire Head to the north, both firmly on the South West Coast Path list of beautiful walks.
