Luxury self-catering accommodation in Newlyn
Famous the world over for its impressive fishing fleet, and once-prolific pilchard works, the thriving village of Newlyn now moves at a steadier pace, where seafood bars and ice cream shops come out top.
Newlyn has always been proud of its community; coming together for art, food, and kinship in any of its inns that graze the harbour. It’s not all mountains of fish piled ready for packing across the rest of Cornwall and the UK now though, more a glass of pink on the bridge over a bowl of caught-that-day oysters. Small by nature, but hearty in spirit, spend a day here tripping from gallery to bistro to pebbled beach with a vanilla ice cream. A local butchers, antique store, and green grocers all add to this wholesome, picturesque village in Penwith.
There is no finer way to arrive in Newlyn than by train; land in Penzance, then saunter by the sea until the art deco lido becomes promenade, then village green, then Newlyn itself. From here, Mousehole’s toppling village can be reached by coast path or car in one direction (take the road through the harbour), or Porthcurno, the Minack Theatre, and Land’s End in the other. There are many secrets in these outer Cornish lands; giants roam the megaliths of the St Just moors and, of course, Zennor’s mermaid lures fishermen to sea. Welcome to the wild west.
