Luxury self-catering accommodation in Porthleven
Towards the end of Cornwall's south coast, this picturesque harbour town is renowned for its seafood outlets and has big foodie appeal. Highly regarded chefs such as Rick Stein flourish here, and there's a natural lake if you can tear yourself away to go exploring.
As seabirds circle over the UK’s most southerly fishing port, visitors could be forgiven for thinking they have entered a bygone world of quaint quayside bustle, as this majestic Napoleonic harbour sees boats venturing in and out with their daily catch. With a lively annual Food Festival and plenty of seafood eateries selling fresh produce year-round, including one belonging to foodie king Rick Stein, along with The Square and Kota, which has prestigious Michelin recognition. Catering for the whole family, Porthleven is the perfect place to hire your own luxury cottage by the sea.
Surfers love the powerful swells at Porthleven beach, but beginners can test the more forgiving waves at pretty Poldhu Cove, just up the coast. The iconic South West Coast path winds in and out of town, and off-road walkers can stroll the short walk inland to Penrose Estate, home to the largest natural freshwater lake in Cornwall. The Loe is thriving with wildlife and it's own expansive stretch of coastline, so be sure to pack your binoculars. There are plenty of woody walks and a seasonal café too, so you can enjoy the natural beauty over lunch or a delicious cream tea, before ambling back into town.
