Luxury self-catering accommodation in Widemouth Bay
Tucked high up on the north Cornish coast, this tiny coastal village sits just underneath bright and breezy Bude and the character here is of a similar nature; sand, sea, clotted ice cream and miles of cliff path to ramble along.
The sweeping expanse of sand that makes up Widemouth Bay attracts surfers and swimmers keen to immerse themselves in the frothy blue waves, with sand lovers dotting the golden beach in the summer; there's a seasonal lifeguard, which makes the beach extra-safe for visiting families. From your luxe beach hut, meander down the side roads into the village to find quaint Cornish cottages, slate-hung or white-washed with thatched roofs, spotting iconic Cornish palms swaying in the salty breeze, plus shops for ice creams and essential treats.
Backing on to the sands, the winding coastal path meanders along from Bude, flaunting breathtaking views of the Atlantic, so day-trips to the bigger town can happily be done on foot, but remember you'll need to walk back again. Bude has been popular with beach-goers since Victorian times, and swimmers love bathing in the open-air sea pool at Summerleaze. There's also a canal here, built in the 19th century, which now provides a scenic walk for most abilities, with primroses and wildlife in the hedges and plenty of places to stop for a picnic en-route.
