The Palladian
Ampney Crucis, Cirencester, Gloucestershire, The Cotswolds, UK
Just a hop, skip and a jump from the pretty town of Cirencester, this luxury self-catering country house stands proud amidst a bounty of wildflower meadows and swathes of woodland in the Cotswolds parish of Ampney Crucis. The Palladian’s garden is a year-round treasure trove and the true crowning glory of this large family home, starting the year with delicate snowdrops and closing with winter cyclamen.
Introduction
Georgian in style and grand in nature, this luxury Cotswold manor house with indoor hot tub and outdoor pool offers a self-catering escape perfect for multi-generational groups. Inspired by modern country homes and complemented with an eclectic mix of both contemporary and antique furnishings, The Palladian is rich in grace and comfort. Outside, sweet blossoms colour early spring with sugared pinks and a quiet spot by the pond offers chances for stargazing under thick blankets; while inside, a violet cinema snug encourages romantic hideouts at dusk.
Inside
Classically designed with pops of colours and antiques throughout, The Palladian is a timeless manor house where roaring fires and sumptuous communal spaces encourage quality family time together. The star of this rather grand show is the light-flooded, open-plan kitchen-diner, where dining beneath glimmering winter nights and bright summer mornings will make fond holiday memories which will last a lifetime. Upstairs, six bedrooms with cloud-soft beds ensure sweet dreams for all.
Outside
The Ampneys is a stunning part of the Cotswolds, named after its babbling brook, and with 15 acres of grounds to explore at The Palladian (designed by Jane Fearnley-Whittingstall), there really is no need to wander far. Burn off some energy with a game on the tennis court, challenge the family to five-a-side football on the pitch or watch little ones bounce on the large trampoline, sipping a large glass of crisp white wine alongside. As night draws in, dine beneath the climbing greenery and glowing lights of the pergola, letting all manner of time slip away with the setting sun.

From the owner
“The Palladian’s garden is the true crowning glory of our much-loved home. Starting the year with snowdrops and closing with cyclamen (with crocuses, blossoms, tulips and everything else in between!) we just love to roam the trees and meadows all through the year.”
The Palladian was originally built between the wars as part of a local country estate, and had two periods of restoration and expansion in the 1980s and in 2016. The last owner before we bought the house in 2015 was Captain Michael Wyndham, grandson of Baron Leconfield, who lived here for many years.
Our focus was to renovate the Cotswold stone elevations, modernising the bathrooms and living areas to make the best of contemporary fittings in this historic setting. Previously we owned a cottage in the next village, Ampney St Peter, for 14 years and have always loved the area of the Ampneys and Cirencester.
Located on the old London Road from Cirencester to Fairford, The Palladian is easy to reach from many places, including London, being just 70 minutes from the M25. It is rural and surrounded by farmland, but not isolated, being a short trip from beautiful Cirencester.
Having said all of that, the pride of place goes to our garden, which offers space for tennis, football and croquet but also attractive landscaped gardens, with a heated sun-trap pool, hot tub and wonderful British flora and fauna.

The location was perfect for us. It was close to the M4 as well as half an hour from many of the attractions we wanted to visit in The Cotswolds (however we only ended up going to a couple as we just wanted to stay and enjoy the house!). We booked The Palladian because it had its own swimming pool and tennis court. We are used to staying in hotels where swimming pools and tennis courts have restricted access times so having these available at any time made it the perfect place for us. My children also loved the added bonus of the trampoline!
Wow! What a house and garden! We celebrated a delayed 70th birthday and loved being together again as an extended family. The cousins have adored the pool, tennis court, and football pitch. It has been great to take time away from busy lives to take a breath and recharge. The house was absolutely spotless on arrival, we appreciated the fresh flowers and thoughtful hamper. What a special treat.
Thank you for a wonderful stay at the beautiful manor, our second time here! Gorgeous house, facilities, and garden. Great memories were made. We would love to return for a third stay!
Such a beautiful weekend escape in the countryside. We live all over the UK so it was the perfect spot for our families to spend some quality time together. We will be back!
Thank you for a lovely half term stay with family. Many memories were made at this lovely residence, sitting by the fire, playing tennis with the kids, the boys playing with the nerf guns and doll house, the treehouse and the trampoline.
Arriving at the gated entrance of The Palladian made us all so excited for our stay! This home-from-home is grand yet relaxed, comfortable yet stylish and simply a perfect space to retire after a busy day exploring. We hope to return in the near future to be able to enjoy the extensive grounds during the warmer months! Until next time!
What a stylish and wonderful house! We have had a fantastic weekend here celebrating our fathers 70th. The grown-ups and children alike loved exploring the house and gardens. It has absolutely everything you need to help you relax and indulge in some precious family time. We will be sure to tell all and sundry about your lovely home! Thank you for having us.
We have had the most fantastic weekend here with our large family. It was the perfect place to celebrate my husband´s 70th birthday and he has loved it. We all adored the pool, cinema room and everything there is to do around the place. I´d love to think we´ll be back at some point in the future!
We have had the most amazing weekend here with all my family. The house is beautiful, the children love the pool and cinema room. Hopefully, we can come back again next year. We didn´t want to leave!
Thank you for a wonderful week in your fabulous home! We have made many fantastic family memories here! You have catered for absolutely every need - the house, the gardens and attention to detail is stunning! The children have had a wonderful time... as have we!! We hope to be back one day.
A beautiful and well-presented home. We spent a very relaxing and lazy week here, even one rainy day stuck in left us with plenty to amuse. The heated pool is such a treat. Children loved the cinema room - one would happily live in it!
A fabulous weeks holiday. Lots of fun was had by all. A beautiful home set in stunning surroundings, thank you so much.
We absolutely loved The Palladian. There is plenty of space for all concerned and the kids loved the heated pool and other activities. It was great to have the space to escape for a quiet read! We love a bit of luxury and this house certainly gave us that. We would not hesitate to use Unique Homestays again in the future.
We had an absolutely fantastic weekend! We all enjoyed the hot tub and the pool, and the children made the most of all the other activities, including the cinema room! I hired a chef for Saturday evening which was the day of my husband´s 70th, and we had the most amazing meal and were waited on hand and foot! We went out to a local pub for Sunday lunch but apart from that, we just enjoyed the house which was amazing! I would like to think that we will all return in the future. It was the perfect place for our birthday celebrations!
