Luxury self-catering accommodation in Weston-super-Mare
On the west coast of Somerset looking out over the Bristol Channel, this bucket-and-spade holiday spot is perfectly located for walks in the Mendip Hills, and cultural day-trips to Bristol and Bath.
Often referred to as 'Weston', this busy coastal town has always been a famous holiday spot, steeped in history and popular with those favouring a classic seaside escape. Children will love spending all day on the almost-three-mile sweep of sands, enjoying donkey rides, ice creams and good old sandcastle building; in fact, the annual sand sculpture festival draws crowds for builders who excel at the art or just want to look. When it's time to leave the beach the town has plenty of shops, a busy museum, the obligatory amusement arcade and crazy golf too.
Inland, to the east of town, the Mendip Way walk is a spectacular 50-mile rambling trail winding via Cheddar and Wells all the way to Frome: perfect if you have three days to spare, but there are plenty of shorter walks on offer for those preferring a mild hike through stunning limestone hills and Chew Valley lakes. There's no ignoring the well-known name of Cheddar, and those wanting some history with their dairy snack can visit the Cheddar Gorge Cheese Company for a tour of the factory, and a chance to stock up on some delicious local goodies.
