Luxury self-catering accommodation in Ruthin
With its fairy tale castle and ghost story for every corner, the historical town of Ruthin in North Wales dates back to the 13th century and is an extraordinary place to visit. The lively craft scene and superb walking attract those with a love of culture as well as the great outdoors.
At the heart of the old market town of Ruthin are the shops, churches, pubs and old streets that give the place its bygone feel, and there are plenty of places that will provide guests with a glimpse of the town's history. A look around the old courthouse tells stories of the kings, queens and rogues who are connected to the town, while the Clwydian Range Food Trail is for gourmet travellers wanting to sample a few local treats. The trail heads out of town into the surrounds of north east Wales and is a great introduction to the amazing countryside.
Particularly scenic is the woodland walk to Moel Famau country park, just to the north of Ruthin; this is the highest point of the Clwydian Range, with the ruins of an old tower and awe-inspiring views to enjoy. Of course, Snowdonia National Park is the big pull for walkers, welcoming hikers every year who are keen to make an ascent up one of the nine mountain ranges. Back at ground level and a short drive north west from Ruthin is majestic Denbigh Castle, just waiting for smalls with swords to bundle up to its crumbling walls and recreate more history.
