Overview

This unique shoot location is somewhat of a paradox, fusing rawness and rusticity with undertones of elegant English heritage. A long tree-lined drive leads to a stone manor and maze of outbuildings, each doused in an intriguing vintage charm of their own. The collection of Cornish farm buildings are part of an ancient country house and were left to fall back to nature, remaining this way in the early stages of a sympathetic renovation. Each space can be rented as seen, or utilised in experimental ways by means of painting, wallpapering or dressing. The location is well suited to playful creatives and stylists who can take full advantage of the bucolic setting and its endless possibilities.

Spaces

As well as the four acres of landscaped gardens which comprise lawns, a tennis court, ivy-clad railway bridge and grotto, there is a large warehouse-style barn, long stone shooting barn with stables beneath, and part-derelict cottage complete with crumbling walls and distressed interiors. The east-facing façade of the main house (which can also be hired as a photoshoot or filming location) features an eight-light granite window with hollow-chamfered mullions, believed to be part of the original late 16th century farmhouse. The slate stone and granite rubble elevations feature an attractive hip roof, housing classical interiors such as recessed sash windows, slate and period tessellated tiled flooring.

The Facts

  • AccommodationThe main six-bed house features a bathroom which can be used for commercial rental in addition to the location on prior request, while portable toilets can be hired locally for large-scale shoots and filming. Recommendations for nearby accommodation will be provided upon enquiry.
  • PracticalitiesThere is on-site parking for twenty vehicles and undercover drive-in space, with easy transport links to Newquay´s airport and train station. More parking space for additional vehicles can be made available if required. The first floor of the shoot barn has electric, running water and a working woodburner. There is a kitchen for basic catering in the main house plus a barn available to outside caterers on request.

Getting there

  • On the Map This unique country house shoot location is just off the A30 on the main route into Cornwall and enjoys a rural location five miles inland from Newquay and ten from Holywell Bay. Both Bodmin moor and the engine house peppered coast path are within easy reach.
  • By Car From London, take the M4 towards Bath, the M5 South and the A30 to Cornwall, before turning off towards Newquay and the coast.
  • By Train The nearest train station is in Newquay, around a 10 minute drive away. There are more frequent and direct services from Bodmin Parkway, a 20 minute drive away, to London Paddington with a journey time of approximately four and a half hours. 
  • By Air Newquay airport is a 15 minute drive away, where taxis and car hire are available.
