Saffron Tower
Beaumaris, Isle of Anglesey, Wales, UK
Standing watch from the corner of a beautiful walled garden, Saffron Tower is a truly unique self-catering escape on the Anglesey coast, where buttercup yellows, dusky pinks and neat green topiary afford this 12th century folly a sunny disposition all year round. Luxury wellness ensues, as couples can indulge in a spa-like experience, rotating from the indoor pool, to sauna to al fresco hot tub overlooking the sea.
Introduction
On first discovery, this luxury self-catering home near Beaumaris was concealed by a tangle of ivy; a fairytale folly that could easily have hidden Rapunzel herself. Stripped of the climber's embrace by the current owners, Saffron Tower now stands proud, overlooking its walled kingdom of ancient trees and topiary sculptures; a serene and sheltered oasis basking in the warming Welsh sun on Anglesey’s often wild and untameable coast.
Inside
Small in its stature but vast in charisma, Saffron Tower (once a resting stop for monks visiting nearby 6th century Penmon Priory), is a sweet retreat far from the madding crowds of city streets, office blocks and clacking computer keyboards. Enjoy a morning coffee overlooking the sea and garden from the kitchen balcony before slowing ebbing away time in the spa; floating in the pool, warming in the sauna and dozing on the loungers.
Outside
Sheltered from coastal storms, Saffron Tower’s walled garden traps the sun’s rays throughout the year, making it the perfect spot for al fresco picnics whether in the waning of autumn or on summer’s longest day. Beyond the boundaries, Anglesey’s coastline billows in each direction, promising views of seabirds, castle ruins and the discovery of secret beaches. A hot tub facing the ocean is, of course, the finest place to watch the sun set on the day.

From the owner
“Having holidayed on this remote corner of the Isle of Anglesey for many years, it holds many special memories for my family and I.”
This 12th century folly that sits in the walled garden of our home was derelict and dilapidated, until it was restored by my family several years ago.
When we first discovered Saffron Tower, it was hidden behind ivy and even had a tin roof! Since then, it has taken years of love and hard work to make it what it is today.
Quirky and unique, we wanted to create an eclectic escape where traditional heritage meets modern, meets mid-century. We wanted the folly to be vibrant throughout, and even though it is quite petite, it is open and filled with colour.
There's plenty to do here, with miles of public footpaths and some testing hills if you’re a keen cyclist. For lovers of cold water swimming, the nearby beach is perfect for taking a dip throughout the year, with the waters warmed by the Gulf Stream. This spot also poses the perfect opportunity for keen fishers, where catching supper can almost be guaranteed.
Snowdon Mountain is only a 40-minute drive away, although the National Park itself can be entered just on the other side of the Menai Bridge; here, adventure awaits for those who seek it.

Saffron Tower is a truly unique property, in a beautiful location, and with fantastic facilities. The quirky accommodation is furnished to a very high standard and has everything you need for a comfortable, relaxing stay. This is a very special place.
I think this quality of holiday accommodation is rare in Anglesey/Wales. It´s perfect for two people and a dog; unique, gorgeous and an excellent location. There was nothing we needed that was not already provided and thought of. The owner provides excellent information and is responsive to any questions we had. The small spaces have been very well designed, very stylish interiors, well thought out spaces in every respect. The use of a gym, indoor pool, hot tub, and barbecue were all added bonuses.
The location was great for us and we most enjoyed the coastal path straight from our patio. Saffron Tower is beautifully decorated and well equipped. The property was clean and the owner was very helpful. We had privacy the whole time. The garden and views from the tower were gorgeous. We were left a hamper with lots of local goods, as well as an iced bottle of wine on arrival. Our dog was treated to a comfortable bed, blanket, towels and treats. Having stayed with Unique Homestays before, we know the attention to detail is on point and that´s exactly what we got. We had a lovely time, very relaxing.
