The Cinders
Lyndhurst, New Forest, Hampshire, UK
Hidden in the heart of the New Forest National Park in Hampshire, with no one but roaming deer for company, The Cinders offers a peaceful escape amidst the wilds of nature. Light-filled interiors and twinkling chandeliers combine with the gentle sounds of the forest outside, creating a luxury self-catering cottage retreat which will soothe the busy mind.
Introduction
Once part of the Schultze Gunpowder Factory, The Cinders nestles quietly in the arms of the New Forest in Hampshire on the borders of the village of Fritham. Here, life takes on a slower cadence to that of city living; moving only as fast as the lazy honeybee bouncing from flower to flower in the late summer sun. Inside, velvet sofas and wool blankets encourage snug winter hibernation by the log burner, while the private woodland garden begs for balmy barefooted afternoons surrounded by beautiful wildflowers.
Inside
Whitewashed wood, thick linens and fluffy sheepskins combine to make The Cinders a refreshing woodland retreat that echos the beautiful New Forest location. Throw open the doors from the open-plan living room-diner to the garden and let the sounds of nature wash through the cottage over a supper of locally reared beef and vegetables from the nearest farm shop. When the weather cools, light the fire and snuggle under soft blankets, thumbing a paperback in one hand and cradling a glass of smooth red with the other.
Outside
As the sun rises over the trees and the darkness gives way to a kaleidoscope of pinks, take a quiet moment over a steaming cup of coffee to breathe in the fresh forest air. There's no better place for self-catering holidays than here. After an al fresco breakfast of hot croissants stuffed with butter and sweet strawberry jam, pack backpacks and head straight out of the front gate to explore the National Park's 140 miles of trails. When the heat of the day begins to fade and little feet are tired from nature spotting, return home to toast marshmallows while gathered around the crackling firepit.

From the owner
“We just love that there are views of the forest from every room in the Cinders. You can be sipping a cup of tea in bed while watching the glow of sunrise climb up the trees, spot New Forest ponies while cooking breakfast and listen to owls hooting as you drift off to sleep at the end of the day.”
We visited the New Forest around 30 years ago for a golfing break, never intending to buy a property but when we stumbled upon The Cinders we fell in love and just couldn't resist it!
We used the cottage as our second home for many years, sharing walks and outdoor adventures with our children as they grew up. We have now revamped our lovely little woodland cabin and hope that you enjoy making your own memories in this beautiful place, just as we have done.
We hope that you find the rest and peace you deserve in this unique forest hideaway and that you return to the real world feeling fresh and new.

The Cinders is a beautiful property with fantastic facilities, which creates a wonderful home from home experience. We enjoyed a peaceful and restorative stay. The location in the New Forest is perfect - a haven of tranquility but not isolated, with many options for day trips throughout the New Forest and along the South Coast.
We were very happy with everything element of our stay at The Cinders. The whole place was spotless and beautifully arranged. The housekeeper does an amazing job of presenting the property to your guests, and she should be applauded for her work. The property is beautifully located and is equipped with everything you could possibly need for a short stay. We will hopefully try and book for next year, I will check the availability.
Loved this property and have rebooked it again already. In particular, we loved the location with the exterior backing onto land with lots of wildlife including ponies and pigs! The pub in the village, The Royal Oak, was great to stroll to. The service from Unique Homestays was very good.
The property is positioned in a lovely, tranquil area. The wildlife that we spotted here was wonderful, we spent many hours watching an array of wildlife. Thank you for a very relaxing stay.
The Cinders is a beautiful place to stay and I would definitely go back! The gorgeous location and the pigs just at the end of the garden were an added bonus. The New Forest on the doorstep was just fabulous.
The Cinders and surrounding land is simply beautiful. As we have come to expect and trust from Unique Homestays, the property is luxurious, clean and equipped with modern amenities. We loved looking out each day to watch the horses, deer and other wildlife. A truly wonderful stay.
The peace and quiet here is just amazing, the only sounds were that of the cows standing at the front gate and the birds singing. It´s so calming and wraps you up like a duvet. Sitting outside in the garden drinking coffee, listening to the birds and feeding the donkeys with apples and carrots was lovely. We curled up in the snug, read books and let the world go by around us. Just before leaving, we sat on the logs near the fire pit and made a note to bring marshmallows next time! Thank you, for letting us share this little piece of heaven.
This is the best holiday home we have ever stayed in - we really didn´t want to leave! It is so beautiful, peaceful and exactly what we wanted from our break away. Thank you.
