Book

Introduction

Starting life in around 1800 by serving the tiny hamlet of Ross as a grain mill, Little Eden has been transformed from a simple dwelling to the finest of self-catering cottages in the Highlands. Tucked away on the shores of Loch Lomond, there are few places in the world where sunsets are as magnificent and walks are as abundant as they are here. Walk out from Little Eden in any direction and face adventure before returning to your private retreat to revel in the tranquillity and achingly beautiful surrounds.

Inside

From languorous mornings under the rafters in the cosy king looking out onto the river to evenings curled up by the log burner, Little Eden is a true Highland sanctuary. Proudly authentic yet irresistibly cosy, you can look forward to the utmost comfort and class throughout. Head out and about by day and in the evening return to roost. Perfect for warming up after long Highland hikes and Scottish pursuits, the ground-floor family bathroom has a dual shower along with a claw-foot bathtub.

Outside

Tumbling down towards Loch Lomond's shore in a blaze of bluebells and leafy green trees, Little Eden's grounds are a Scottish secret garden just waiting to be discovered. Lace up your hiking boots and be on the West Highland Way (which passes by the foot of the garden) in seconds. Or simply sit by the loch for a birding picnic. When the day darkens, retreat to the rear of the cottage for long nights surrounded by fiery Japanese Maples under one of those famous Scottish sunsets, s'mores toasting on the fire pit.

From the owner

“We just love our lochside haven for all its unique and magical features. You can wild swim in the loch at the foot of the garden, stargaze without distraction on clear nights, or stroll 2km along the West Highland Way from the foot of Little Eden´s garden to the Clansman Pub at Rowardennan for supper.”

From the owner

Our lovely highland cottage on the bonnie banks of Loch Lomond was originally built around 1800 as the mill to the small hamlet of Ross. Much later, first evidence of it being used as a dwelling took place around 1895.

We first saw the cottage a few years ago when we walked the West Highland Way; we were charmed by the accessible but wonderfully rural location of the cottage, being tucked away on the less travelled eastern shores of this famous loch, yet only 50 minutes from Glasgow.

After buying Little Eden, we refurbished the interior to create what we hope you will find a comfortable and cosy retreat. It’s now kitted out with lots of mod cons, yet boasts back-to-nature appeal.

Located in the Trossachs National Park and surrounded by SSSI woodlands, the landscape is heavily protected for the purposes of conserving and encouraging native and local wildlife. These include otters, capercaillie and western acidic oak woodland. Red squirrels and pine marten can often be seen as well as various types of deer too.

Thank you so much for your fantastic Scottish hospitality. The past week has been like living in a fairy tale. We have walked, hiked, and explored the beautiful Scottish countryside and scared ourselves driving on the left-hand side of the roads that to us only seem big enough for one car, not two! It has been the best holiday ever.

It was a short but magical escape. Great walking, spectacular surroundings, and a comfy, cosy, spotless Eden to return to - just perfect for a reset. Excellent food recommendations and friendly staff helped make our trip memorable. Thank you for sharing your beautiful cottage.

This place is magical - The perfect beautiful hideaway from the tribulations of daily life. We loved everything about it, indoors and out, and could happily stay forever. Thank you for sharing it with us.

Beautiful, secluded, private location; quiet; proximity to nature; gorgeous interior; property style. It´s exactly what we wanted. "Little Eden" is no exaggeration!

We had a wonderful stay here at the beautiful Little Eden. It´s our honeymoon and I could not think of a better place to stay other than here, thank you so much for the gifts and hospitality. Hopefully we can re-visit one day!

We´ve had a very special Christmas here at Little Eden. The weather was typically Scottish except for Boxing Day which was beautiful, so we climbed a mountain, kayaked and swam in the Loch! One day we walked to Balmaha and back (6.4 miles to The Oak Tree!). The cottage is purely magical. Thank you for our beautiful gift too. We hope to return soon.

The most wonderful week in this beautiful cottage - we felt very lucky to be able to enjoy such a magical place. It was so cosy and welcoming to return to after a long day out walking, we loved the wood burner and all the little touches. Thank you for sharing this special place; we cannot wait to return.

A year later and we returned - we couldn´t stay away for long, this is such a magical place! A lovely way to celebrate a birthday. Beautiful views whichever way you turn and the cosiest little cottage. We will no doubt return again for another blissful weekend - or maybe longer next time!

We have had a wonderful stay in this beautiful cottage which is in the most idyllic position. We tucked in having had two storms! Thank you for all the detail and comfort provided and for the house book which we found very helpful, especially places to eat out!

Beautiful cottage in an idyllic location on the Loch. We loved being able to use our paddleboards each morning in such proximity (dogs included). Keep an eye out for red squirrels, one made an appearance during our morning coffee in the tree at the front of the cottage which was definitely a highlight for us. Thanks for a lovely stay.

Lovely cottage, beautiful surroundings, and a great location. Loved our walks down to and along the Loch, taking in the breathtaking views. Such a peaceful place, we will be back. The cottage was spotless, thank you!

Our first holiday in 21 years without our children and we could not have dreamed of a better place to rekindle our love of nature and a slower pace of life. I have been looking for this place for 30 years- I just did not know it! Thanks for allowing us to share your beautiful cottage.

We wanted somewhere small, but still beautiful and in an idyllic location. Little Eden ticked all of these boxes. Everything was perfect, we wouldn’t change a thing! Just to say a massive thank you to Elin from Unique Homestays, the owners and the housekeeper for a wonderful stay. We didn’t want to come home!

Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful cottage with us. It is so charming and its idyllic setting is perfect. we´ve all loved our time here. Exploring the surroundings and a few castles too! We even managed to enjoy the log burner on a rainy day! We are sad to leave such a wonderful place.. we will be back!

Such a charming secluded spot to celebrate our 50th & 60th birthdays! Being right by the Loch was amazing and our dogs learnt to swim (finally!). They did some kayaking as well and enjoyed the local walks. The short river walk (turning left from the barn into the woods and following the grassy path which loops back to the house) was absolutely enchanting. Went to Loch Katrine, Glencoe and the surroundings, not enough time!

We want to venture north more. The location of Little Eden is fantastic. The stay was memorable. We always travel with our dog, this is a must for us. Great stay I would recommend it. I´m urged to even return which would be a first for us to repeat a stay.

Such a gorgeous cottage in a wonderful setting! We had a very relaxing week here, good mix of sun, rain and snow! Our dog loved swimming in the Loch and exploring the woodland trails. We bought lots of tasty food from the farm shop at Kippen. Enjoyed a morning at the spa at Cameron House, and went shopping in Glasgow for a day. We had the woodburner on daily and toasted marshmallows on the fire pit. Sad to leave but feeling rested.

Fantastic weekend in a fantastic place. We have had such a wonderful time boating, walking and kayaking. The cottage has felt like a home from home and we will definitely return in the future. This place will always hold a special place in our hearts... I said Yes!

Wonderful weekend in your beautiful cottage, stunning location. Enjoyed the simple life, away from the stresses of work to relax, read, walk and admire the views. The cottage has everything you need. Home from home. Thank you, we will certainly return!

Every window and door is like a painting, looking out onto different vistas of garden and loch. We´ve thoroughly enjoyed taking advantage of Little Eden´s location, walking from the front door, swimming in the loch, SUP at Rowardennan and we also particularly enjoyed sitting on Conic Hill looking down the Highland Boundary Fault at the two contrasting geologies. A day trip to the lovely Loch Katrin was super for a boat trip and cycle along the Loch.

Exceeded all (high) expectations! Loved the location, the cottage itself and everything in between. A perfect safe haven to escape reality! I especially loved the pillows and the duvet, best sleep ever! Also, thank you for keeping the house so well equipped. All in all an amazing holiday, we will miss it and hope to be able to visit again.

Really enjoyed some ´down time´ for a week, which flew by far too quickly. We walked, we swam in the loch, managing to avoid the rain everyday! We´ve spotted many birds including a pine martin and the noisy jays. We´ve loved sitting out in the evenings lighting the brazier. Fantastic cottage, amazing location - we will be back as soon as we can!

My thoughts I was having as the time to leave approached were ´if I refused to leave, how long would it take for me to forcefully be evicted?´ I love this place, everything about it is perfect. The astounding location, the view, the sloping meadow, the interior; how well appointed this splendid cottage is! I had the perfect week; the dogs do not want to leave either!

After a 10 hour journey with dogs on board, we were delighted by the beautiful cottage on our arrival. This place is truly magical and we´d be happy to live here, let alone stay for just a few days! The welcome hamper is a great touch and the cottage is immaculate, well-kept and in a fantastic location. We enjoyed the remoteness and found that we didn´t have to stray too far from its warmth and comfort. We, and the dogs, have enjoyed the walks nearby; I think we will be back!

After a 7-day tour of Scotland, our 3-night stay at Little Eden has been the icing on the cake of a truly amazing trip. It feels so magical here and has made a superb setting for Halloween. The cottage is beautiful, the walks are stunning; the only downside is we don´t want to leave! Thank you for letting us stay in this amazing place, you have such great taste in decor and I pretended I lived here the whole time! We will be back.

Wow! What a stunning cottage Little Eden is. We´ve enjoyed every minute, it has been so peaceful and relaxing. Great walks and stunning views of Loch Lomond, the perfect setting. The cottage is fabulous and every thought and design is superb. Great little find for peace and quiet and we hope to return sometime soon. Many thanks.
