Nevada
Drift, Newlyn, Cornwall, UK
Copper-clad to blend with West Cornwall's wild landscape, this waterside home is the ultimate lookout for aquaphiles and stargazers. Hidden behind twisting country roads between Newlyn and Porthcurno, Nevada is the sole occupant on the banks of Drift Resevoir, making this one seriously private pad. Welding colonial interiors with the latest eco-technology, families and friends can revel in a truly unique hideaway.
Introduction
Encased by a wraparound deck and glinting in the light, this luxury self-catering home mirrors the style of a Californian lakehouse. With the reservoir as the backdrop and sunsets melting into the waters below, Nevada is an idyllically positioned haven perfect for those wanting to experience ultimate relaxation. If you can manage to tear yourself away, explore Cornwall's charming west coast by wandering around pretty Mousehole, diving into the art deco sea pool on Penzance promenade or hop-skipping between Newlyn's bistros and parlours.
Inside
Sprawling over three spacious floors, Nevada is the ultimate scenic lookout where the panoramic views are exclusively yours. Spend mornings through to evenings in content marooned bliss on the plump sofas or around the window-side dining table, with only sounds of the reservoir wildlife to disturb. Perfect for families or friends, this waterside haven flaunts three zip-and-link bedrooms. The lower deck comprises two bedrooms, each with private sun decks, while the middle deck features the third bedroom and luxurious family bathroom.
Outside
Outside, landscaped lawns enclose Nevada and seemingly spill into the reservoir below. The secret garden gate opens out onto the waterside pathway where couples can enjoy romantic moonlit wanders. Keen fisherfolk can hire a boat and enjoy the clear waters of the Drift Reservoir stocked with Rainbow and Blue Trout. Meanwhile, birdwatchers will be spoilt for choice, spotting herons, swans, geese and resident Muscovy duck enjoying the lake all from the vantage point of the private south-west deck.

From the owner
“Nevada is all about the view and location, the whole place is full of light reflected off the reservoir. Level with the birds like you are staying in a tree house, slide open the doors and walk onto the wooden terrace and the most amazing panoramic view hits you, like your own private lake.”
Nevada was originally built in 1961 alongside the Drift Dam as the ‘Water Bailiff’s’ House. It was developed by South-West Water for use by the manager of the dam and reservoir. When the dam was automated, the house was sold off as a private dwelling.
In March 2016 Camillin Denny Architects purchased the property and turned it into something quite magical. The previous owners' innovative design and attention to detail meant they were grand final winners at the LABC Building Excellence Awards 2018, proving what an amazing success their venture has been.
The location is stunning. Nevada is completely private; it's the only house on the Drift Reservoir and yet is just minutes away from Mousehole, Newlyn, Penzance and Marazion. Some of the best white sand beaches, surfing, boating, seafood restaurants, open-air theatre, warehouse cinema and walks to be found in Cornwall are all within easy reach.

Incredible property with the most beautiful view every morning. Kids absolutely loved the hot tub and spotting animals in the distance. We discovered an incredible café that we frequented for breakfast most mornings and the Mackerel Skye restaurant for dinner. We also used a chef from your recommendations to visit us at Nevada during our stay and Andi cooked us a delicious meal. We loved it, just wished the sun made more of an appearance for us!
