Solas
Luskentyre Beach, The Isle of Harris, Scotland, UK
Settled above the paradisiacal shores of Luskentyre Beach on the Isle of Harris, Solas is a modern self-catering home seemingly perched on the edge of the world, where the alchemy of human craftmanship flawlessly amalgamates with nature's purest beauty. Spend days with eyes on the enormous skies from the patio, al fresco hot tub or glass-fronted sauna. The Scottish wilderness has never been so luxurious.
Introduction
Brushing aside any idea of twee self-catering cottages, this luxury island dwelling flaunts all-encompassing views across Luskentyre Beach through enormous windows, the changeable colours of Hebridean skies flooding the house; mulberry and ash in dark moments, radiant when the sun burns bright. Whether soaking in the bath, stretching on the yoga deck or enjoying a dram in one of the perfectly positioned window seats, mountain vistas, wildlife spotting and fiery sunsets are guaranteed.
Inside
Cool minimalism and a monochrome colour scheme accented with hues from the shifting seasons outside make up Solas’ sleek interior; designed entirely to tempt eyes through the windows come rain or shine, night or day. A separate spa building is connected to the top floor via a bridge, where guests can warm frozen bones from winter expeditions in the sauna. Here is where the most exceptional views of this contemporary build can be found; enveloped in big Scottish skies, at one with the eagles.
Outside
Surfing, hiking, art galleries and of course gin drinking at Harris' famed distillery; there is so much wonder packed into this small but mighty island off Scotland’s west coast that one might never want to leave. For adventure, visitor's needn't travel far; mountain bikes are available for guests to use at their whim, while the summits of Beinn Dhubh and Clisham are within easy reach for keen ramblers. As the day draws to a close, sink into the hot tub where you might be lucky enough to glimpse the Northern Lights dancing overhead.

From the owner
“The ever-changing, uninterrupted scenery will leave you mesmerised. No two days are ever the same, be it wild or serenely still.”
Solas gives the ultimate sense of escapism; the chance to switch off and recharge. Whether it's to break away from the rat race or time needed to pursue a project that requires clarity of mind, this will be your sanctuary.
As you reach Luskentrye, it feels as though you have travelled to the end of the earth where a sense of calm and serenity takes over and you cannot help but give in to it. The location is well renowned for being an incredibly healing and spiritual place, it's like no other spot we have ever visited.
We were very lucky to have had the opportunity to build our dream home here and create a space that will be etched in memories for a lifetime. Granted, it is not the easiest place to get to, but we have found the magic in that.
The most stunning places in life are never the easiest to find, but always worth the effort.

Owner recommendations
Live like a local, discovering the best hidden gem restaurants, walks and attractions during your holiday in Luskentyre Beach with an insider’s perspective.
To Eat
Talla na Mara
Island smoked salmon, Cullen skink and overloaded sandwiches, all with the backdrop of Niseaboist beach and the Atlantic Ocean, this café, bar and restaurant celebrates the very best of the Isle of Harris and the Outer Hebrides.
To Do
St Kilda
Remote and wild, the abandoned island of St Kilda can only be accessed by boat (we recommend booking with Sea Harris). Sail past the highest sea cliffs in the UK, spot nesting birds and walk the deserted street of Village Bay.
To See
The Calanais Standing Stones
A 5000 year old stone circle steeped in legend and mystery that has withstood the rugged weather that lashes the Outer Hebrides. Although there are many theories for its existence, many believe the stones were once the site of both astronomical and ritualistic ceremonies.
To Do
Isle of Harris Distillery
A community hub and catalyst for social change on the island, this distillery is so much more than it says on the tin. Take a tour to discover how this unique gin is made, dine in the canteen and be sure to take a bottle home to enjoy in the hot tub.
