Seafold | Luxury Beach House | Seaton, Cornwall

Seafold

Seaton, Cornwall, UK

Perched above Torpoint on the Cornish coast, this luxury beach house stands as a love letter to light and landscape. Seafold is an architectural chameleon that shifts with the rhythms of sea and sky, its glass panels and trifold doors blurring the boundary between home and horizon. Here, contemporary art finds harmony with coastal vistas, and a hidden bedroom beckons the child in us all to step through the looking glass.

Introduction

A five-minute amble from the beach, Seafold emerges from the cliffs as a modern-day sea nymph born of glass and imagination. Its dual-aspect doors breathe in salt air and exhale contentment. This is no cold contemporary – warmth radiates from every corner, from the floating bed that seems to oscillate on the ocean breeze to the antique papier-mâché mannequin holding vigil. This is a place where sun-kissed, sand-dusted families can clatter in after a day of coastal adventures, piling buckets and spades on the deck and casting aside dry robes. Nostalgia tingles in the air like salt spray; it's a home that embodies the perfect family getaway, where holidays are done just right.

Inside

The house unfolds like origami, each turn revealing new perspectives on sea and sky. White walls capture the ever-shifting coastal light, while a wood and glass staircase scatters sunbeams like maritime glitter. The home serves as a gallery for contemporary artwork, their stillness a counterpoint to the seascape beyond. A hidden door in a bookcase reveals a secret bedroom – a portal to Narnia's dreamland – while the kitchen island invites all to gather, whether it's to pack picnics or lend a hand in crafting feasts of local crab and saffron buns. On rainy days, while away hours with a jigsaw or curl up with a book, and when children beg to go to the cinema room, the answer is always "yes".

Outside

The tiered garden tumbles towards the sea, punctuated by tranquil seating areas perfect for unwinding on the warm terrace. Watch the tide ebb and flow as little ones recount their escapades of the day, or head to the upper deck, binoculars in hand, to trace the path of ships on the horizon and count newborn lambs dotting the hillside. Come evening, the outdoor pizza oven beckons, promising dinner scented with wood smoke and oregano, followed by a soak in the hot tub beneath a celestial umbrella, distant waves providing a lullaby. Even when storms roll in and the sea turns feral, Seafold stands firm – a stalwart haven best enjoyed with a glass of red and the crackle of the log burner.

From the owner

“This exquisite, little-known part of Cornwall is a hidden gem, when we´re not at the beach, there´s so much to enjoy locally. We´re fortunate to enjoy a bird´s eye view from our vantage point at Seafold.”

From the owner

It's always been all about the view for us when it comes to Seafold. We discovered this exquisite, little-known part of Cornwall when we holidayed here with Jon's parents back in 2020. We didn't know at the time, but this turned out to be the last holiday for Jon's mother. When Seafold came onto the market a couple of years later, it felt like an opportunity to recapture those precious memories.

We spent over 12 months renovating the house and some of our favourite things are here, including our eclectic contemporary art collection. Seafold, with its light-filled spaces is the perfect backdrop against which to showcase these finds from up and coming artists.

Seaton itself is a hidden gem. The beach here boasts sand, surf, rockpools and some of the best bass fishing in the country. There are winding trails through the woodland below the house for an at the beach alternative and on days when the beach is too busy for your liking, you can enjoy the peace and quiet here at Seafold.
