Introduction
Wales and romance go hand-in-hand, and this remote bolthole on the golden curve of the Pembrokeshire coast is everything you could wish for in a self-catering cottage by the sea. White painted stone walls and oak floorboards have been paired with reclaimed furnishings, while modern luxuries - such as a hot tub with a view - have been thoughtfully incorporated during renovations by the owners, a couple passionate about breathing new life into heritage buildings. For those looking to escape the madding crowds, Smokehouse Cottage affords an authentic getting-away-from-it-all home.
Inside
Not wanting to detract from the setting, the décor is intentionally simple here, with a pared-back aesthetic that showcases the breath-taking outlook. In the welcoming open-plan living space, the beamed ceilings and woodburner combine to ensure the cosiest of winter stays. In the bedrooms of the main house, muted coastal tones set the scene, with the two main bedrooms sharing a family bathroom with clawfoot bath, while the king-size en suite room in the annex - complete with woodburner and kitchenette - affords a peaceful spot for those seeking a languid lie-in.
Outside
A wooden deck flaunts views over the sea, tempting wild swims in the secret coves found at the south end of the beach. Renowned for its big waves and two-mile stretch of golden sand backed by a shingle bank (the remnants of a huge storm in 1958), Newgale's Blue Flag-awarded beach is possibly the most famous on St Bride's Bay and a Mecca for surfers. Watch the small coves completely disappear at low tide, before retreating to the warmth of the cottage. Whether rinsing salty hair in the al fresco shower, or reclining in the wood-fired hot tub, the garden has enviable views for sundowner sessions.

Both share a family bathroom with a walk-in shower and large egg bath. There is a further bedroom with king-size bed in the annexe, as well as a wet room.

- PracticalitiesThere is private parking on the gravel drive for four cars. The garden gate sits on a slope so please keep a close eye on dogs and children with escapee tendencies, as there is a small gap underneath when closed. Dogs are welcome in the main house however the annexe is a pet-free area. Whilst the cottage has a remote feel for most of the year, the road in front is the main coastal route so is sometimes busier with beachgoers in tourist seasons. The cottage kitchen is thoughtfully equipped with everything you´ll need for a self-catering holiday, including Neff induction hob and cooker, Nespresso Virtuo Plus, kettle, toaster, dishwasher, washer-dryer, fridge-freezer and extendable dining table. The annexe features a bedroom with king-size bed, wet room, kitchenette and lounge area. When booking the smaller group option, the annexe will not be available, however, it will remain unoccupied.

Pembrokeshire
This unique coastal National Park is one of Wales´ greatest assets. Volcanic hills and towering red and grey cliffs are interleaved with perfect sandy beaches that attract visitors from far and wide, thanks to the pounding surf and peaceful ambience.
Getting there
- On the Map This charming seaside cottage sits on the coastal road opposite Newgale beach within west Wales' Pembrokeshire National Park.
- By Car The cottage is around two and a half hours from Bristol, three and a half from Birmingham and five from London.
- By Train The nearest station is in the town of Haverfordwest, eight miles from Newgale. Trains from Haverfordwest connect with services at Swansea and journeys from London Paddington to Haverfordwest take around four and a half hours. There is also one daily direct train from Paddington to Carmarthen, taking nearer four hours. Taxis are usually at the station but pre-book to avoid a wait.
- By Air The nearest international airport to Smokehouse Cottage is Cardiff Airport, 105 miles away. Haverford West airport is only 20 minutes away for those arriving by private aircraft.

“My husband and I honestly thought in this day and age it would be impossible to find a property on its own overlooking a two mile stretch of golden sand beach, certainly not one that hadn´t already been renovated to someone else´s taste, but sometimes the stars align.”
The dramatic rocks cradling Newgale Bay form a theatre-like setting for the breathtaking sunsets that occur here. Even on a cloudy day, you will be surprised how the light will break through and turn the bay a golden orange.
There is a dramatic contrast between the low and high tides that gives the best of both worlds. There is a huge beach to explore when it is out, where you can reach some stunning caves to both the right and the left, then on high tide it is just a few steps for you to jump in for a swim.
Smokehouse Cottage offers the rare experience of being able to step out of the front door and be just a few metres from one of the most beautiful beaches in the UK.
Often such places sit shoulder to shoulder with other properties, but here you will enjoy the incredible sunsets across the bay and the stars at night with just the sound of the sea. This place has stolen our hearts, we hope it does yours.

Skomer is an island shrouded in mystery, located just a mile off the Pembrokeshire coast. Surrounded by shaded inlets, off shore rocks and sheltered coves, this natural nature reserve has the largest colony of puffins in southern Britain. A great day out for budding nature photographers.

We loved everything about the Smokehouse Cottage and the annexe. The added finishing touches such as the candles, the delicious welcome hamper, the soaps by Freight smelt so lovely and our welcome bag of shampoo etc. by Conscious Skincare was a really lovely added surprise. The property is beautifully furnished; we also loved all of the artwork and the books! This was a home that I just didn’t want to leave. I always say that I never want to visit a place again as there’s so much more to see, but I actually said that I’d like to come back sometime. Thank you for making our holiday so memorable.
Smokehouse Cottage is perfect. The property itself has been renovated to a very high standard and its location is stunning. If you are looking to relax and want peace and quiet, whilst still being close to amenities, then this house ticks all the boxes. We visited in December, so the area was lovely and tranquil. We would love to come back again in the future!
