Something different awaits any who venture to the Welsh coast and Florin, a Scots baronial country house complete with gothic turrets and gable ends. Through the heavy doors and all is not what it seems; library walls swing out to reveal secret doorways, silver trinkets shimmer in the dining room and enormous bathtubs invite deep relaxation after days tearing around the grounds with the children.
Run by a father and daughter team, owner Ffion says, “When decorating the house, we wanted to create a fun environment for adults, children and big kids alike! We fused the traditional features of this historical home with some modern and personal touches: there is a Welsh dresser that has been passed down to the daughter in the family for five generations and china that my grandmother bought in auctions, all of which is mixed with French antiques and contemporary pieces.”
Florin’s fantastical mood reaches out across its five acres of grounds, “Our gardens are simply exquisite and have a romantic ‘Alice in Wonderland’ feel to them,” states Ffion. “From the ornate fountains to the secret gardens and magical pathways entwined in roses, you can almost expect to turn the corner and see the Mad Hatter’s tea party in full swing!”.
A true embarkment into the land of fairytales, Ffion and father Meirion viewed the property together and fell in love with it almost at once. Now, ten years down the line, Ffion says, “ My father helps me out. He loves meeting different people and he wants them to have the best experience.”
“We live as a family in London but love to come back and spend time on the Welsh coast when we can. It feels unique and more of a fantasy home,” says Ffion. “It’s fun and quirky; it’s never serious here.”
