In our latest owner chronicle, we head down to Cornwall’s charming coastal village of Gwithian to speak with owner, Melanie, about her modern, chic beach pad; Senara.
In search of a perfect holiday destination to spend time with loved ones, Melanie felt that Cornwall was the answer, having spent many happy childhood memories in the county. Fortuitously, Melanie and her family stumbled across Senara; a new build that served as an entirely blank canvas with heaps of opportunity. Beguiled by its panoramic sea views, breathtaking sunsets, and made-for-fun outdoor pool - ideal for their two (and soon to be three) adventurous young boys - Melanie and her family purchased the property in October 2020 and moved in soon after to oversee the renovations.
Taking 22 months from purchase to finish, the Kirk family enlisted the help of Cornish-based designers and stylists, Tigah Interiors, to help them realise their vision for the space. Melanie noted, “it had the amazing view but the inside was plain... we felt it deserved more, so we poured in lots of finishes to bring more character and warmth.” The final look is what they have dubbed “coastal boho”; with warm, sandy-toned colour palettes, tactile textures from boucle to wicker, and competition-winning surfboards used as decorative items throughout. “Surrounded by the rugged coast and farmland, we wanted the landscape to cross the threshold of the house, so we have therefore kept the interiors natural but luxurious at the same time.” Enormous windows in each room bring that extra bit of Cornish magic, offering endless views over Godrevy and St Ives Bay.
“Senara is a luxurious, relaxing, and inspiring place to spend time,” says Melanie, “it really has it all.” And she’s not wrong. With six double bedrooms and a self-contained annexe, Senara was made with big gatherings of friends and family in mind. Outside, the garden is home to an outdoor swimming pool, hot tub, and barrel sauna, as well as a firepit with sunken seating and a deck ripe for summer barbecues on the Big Green Egg. “We love the view of the garden from the hot tub”, notes Melanie, “and the sunsets from the kitchen balcony are simply stunning.”
You’ll find Senara encircled by peaceful Cornish farmland and just a stone’s throw from the iconic three-mile stretch of beach; frequented by seasoned surfers year round, locals walking their dogs come rain or shine, and holidaymakers enjoying lazy days under the sun come July, locations don’t get much better than here. When asked for her ‘must do’ activity when staying here, she gives an insight into the idyllic simplicity of life here: “head to Gwithian beach for a surf or sea swim, followed by a coffee and a bacon sandwich on the beach.”
“We truly love the house,” says Melanie, “it really has become a part of us, and we are so excited to welcome guests to love it like we do.”
